Brochure Design for Beauty, Fashion, Salons and Spas

The beauty industry is built on the services that help a woman feel that her external appearance is a reflection of the loveliness within herself. Products, fashions, services, and fitness programs all compete to be part of a woman’s beauty process or regimen.

Brochures in the beauty industry can be effectively used to showcase fashion designs, cosmetics, aesthetics services, and health/weight management programs and centers.

Designing beautiful brochures

Brochure designers for the beauty industry utilize various color palettes depending on the services or products being represented. Higher contrast and saturated palettes can give an impression of action, effective for weight loss and fitness training. Cooler, lower-contrast colors may denote subtleness and elegance often associated with spas, beauty salons and aesthetics centers.

Shapes may be organic - swoops, curves, swooshes, circles and subtle movements that are reflective of natural movement. The layout format of brochures may be informal rather than rigidly structured.

Beauty industry brochures may be more effective when they are picture content-rich and text-limited. Pictures can help clients envision themselves wearing a certain design or color, a hairstyle, or makeup. Pictures of fitness and weight loss may inspire a client to achieve a new level of physical fitness and well-being.

Brochures for beauty services

Beauty services are provided in a variety of settings including salons, fitness centers, cosmetics and department stores, boutiques, spas, and even medical and physical therapy centers. Think of the ways brochures can describe and promote beauty-related services:

  • A medical clinic or hospital can use brochures to describe the skincare services of its medical aesthetician department. These services provide counsel, treatment, and recommend products to help a patient with special skin care needs. Medical aestheticians can also help patients who have experienced injury or illness that has affected the health and appearance of their skin.
  • Salons offer a variety of beauty services including hair and cosmetics, manicures, and pedicures. Brochures and flyers can be used to describe services, products, and pricing.
  • Individuals who have created their own beauty industry niche - a private line of clothing and accessories, beauty makeovers, personal training - may find they use a variety of brochures and related materials to bring their services to prospective clients’ attention. These materials can be directed to individual clients or specific venues - art fairs, fashion weeks, trunk shows, bridal fairs, theatre costuming and makeup services, etc.
  • Spas may use brochures not only to describe services, but also to help foster a favorable expectation of peacefulness, relaxation, and physical and inner restoration - before the client even arrives at the center.

Brochures can help introduce new product lines and services. Makeup and hairstyles, colors, and fashions shift with the seasons. Brochures can help launch the next "look" or latest care product.

Brochures for beauty and health safety

Many clients are safety conscious, not only about the products they use, but also about the health standards and practices of the environment in which beauty services are provided.

Brochure inserts can be a statement of hygiene policies and procedures practiced in the spa, salon, or clinic for the safety of the client and employees. A simple statement of policy can help increase a client’s confidence in the quality of services provided and products utilized.

Beauty tutoring by brochure

Any woman who has had a cosmetic or fashion makeover may remember how difficult it can be to replicate the new look after she leaves the salon or store. Brochures and inserts can provide tips and reassuring "how-to" guidelines for her as she applies makeup in a new way or shops for clothes in new-to-her colors and designs.

Beauty industry brochures are more than pretty pictures and narratives that promote products and services. They can inform, reassure, inspire, and guide clients who are seeking to define and achieve their own unique beauty.
